Understanding Air Quality Index: When to Stay Indoors

By The Lungora Team · September 2026

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a standardized scale that tells you how clean or polluted the air is. For adults over 50 and anyone with respiratory sensitivity, understanding it guides daily outdoor decisions.

The scale

0–50 (Green): Good. Safe for everyone. 51–100 (Yellow): Moderate. Unusually sensitive people may notice effects. 101–150 (Orange): Unhealthy for sensitive groups. Reduce prolonged outdoor exertion. 151–200 (Red): Unhealthy. Everyone may experience effects. Move exercise indoors.

How to check

AirNow.gov, weather apps and local news report AQI daily. Check before morning outdoor activity, especially during wildfire season or in urban areas.

The supplement angle

Avoiding exposure on high-AQI days is infinitely more protective than any antioxidant supplement. Lungora’s antioxidants support cellular defense, but they cannot counter the damage from breathing heavily polluted air during exercise.
