Magnesium appears in supplements as oxide, citrate, glycinate, threonate and other forms. Each has different absorption, tolerability and therapeutic profiles. Lungora uses glycinate at 80mg.
Magnesium glycinate is bound to the amino acid glycine. This form shows superior absorption compared to oxide, causes less GI distress than citrate and glycine itself has calming properties.
The RDA for magnesium is 400 to 420mg for adult men and 310 to 320mg for adult women. At 80mg, Lungora provides approximately 19 to 26% of the daily requirement. Dietary intake must cover the remainder.
Magnesium supports muscle relaxation including the diaphragm and intercostal muscles that drive breathing. Deficiency can cause muscle cramps, tightness and increased tension — including in respiratory muscles.
