Altitude and Breathing: What to Know Before Traveling

By The Lungora Team · September 2026

At higher altitudes, air pressure decreases and each breath contains fewer oxygen molecules. This forces your body to work harder to maintain adequate oxygenation.

What to expect

Above 5,000 feet: mild breathlessness with exertion. Above 8,000 feet: possible altitude sickness (headache, nausea, fatigue). Above 10,000 feet: significant acclimatization needed. Symptoms are more pronounced in adults over 50 and those with existing respiratory conditions.

Preparation

Ascend gradually (no more than 1,000 to 1,500 feet per day above 8,000 feet). Stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol for the first 48 hours. If you have a respiratory condition, consult your physician before traveling to altitude.

Supplement note

Lungora does not affect altitude acclimatization. CoQ10 and antioxidants provide their usual cellular support, but they do not compensate for reduced oxygen availability at altitude.
