What Your Cough Is Telling You

By The Lungora Team · September 2026

Not all coughs are the same. The character, duration and associated symptoms help distinguish between benign and concerning causes.

Acute cough (less than 3 weeks)

Usually viral (common cold, influenza). Self-limiting. Supportive care: hydration, rest, honey for throat comfort. See a doctor if accompanied by high fever, bloody sputum or severe breathlessness.

Subacute cough (3 to 8 weeks)

Post-infectious cough (airway inflammation persisting after a cold). Usually resolves without treatment but may need evaluation if worsening.

Chronic cough (more than 8 weeks)

Requires medical evaluation. Common causes: postnasal drip, asthma, gastroesophageal reflux, medications (ACE inhibitors). Less common but important: COPD, lung cancer, tuberculosis.

Lungora context

A cough is a symptom, not a condition. Lungora provides general wellness support but does not treat the cause of any cough. Chronic or concerning coughs need a physician, not a supplement.
