Turmeric and Curcumin: What the Research Actually Shows

By The Lungora Team · September 2026

Turmeric is one of the most studied natural compounds in the world. Thousands of published studies examine its properties. Here is what the evidence supports and where it falls short.

What curcumin does

Curcumin is a polyphenol in turmeric with documented antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in laboratory and animal studies. It modulates NF-kB, COX-2 and other inflammatory pathways.

The bioavailability problem

Curcumin has poor oral bioavailability — most of what you swallow is poorly absorbed and rapidly metabolized. Black pepper extract (piperine) increases absorption by approximately 2,000%, which is why many supplements include it.

In Lungora

Our formula includes Turmeric Extract as part of our antioxidant support category. We include it for its broad antioxidant properties alongside CoQ10 and ALA, not as a standalone therapeutic agent.
